Thanks for your comment, Susan! I think we are seeing more and more demonstrations of curiosity in working professionals and how they reach out to other fields of study and even drastically change careers. It's a pretty invigorating sensation!

I, too, come from a Liberal Arts background, which seems to have prepared me for little other than writing papers. Because I decided to get into business, I had to ramp up on things I never cared about, like stat (ick) and marketing (hmm). When I got my MBA I had to be a generalist on all things business.

Now that I've been in marketing a while, I find myself wanting to branch into other areas, be it a different topic to write about, or something off the wall, like that animation class you took. At least now it's because I want to expand my horizons, not because I have to!

Thank you for the comment, Eric. It definitely makes sense. That is why I'd remain a strong advocate of pursuing internships while students are still in college. It really helps develop a more kaleidoscopic vision of your interests and how they fit in the world as a whole.

I have been thinking a lot about how traditional education should do a better job of emphasizing the relationships between theories studied in the classroom and real-life work environments. The smartest people at my company are those who take life lessons and truths and apply them to their projects. I should blog about that! ;-)
